Tatting is the art of creating beautiful lace from thread using a shuttle or tatting needle. Celtic Tatting employs the methods of tatting to create traditional and original lace designs with the interweaving of Celtic Knots.
Here is a photo taken in front of the house built by my great grandfather, Daily Vance Mahan (right) for his family. My great grandmother (left) whose maiden name was Ramsey, and my grandfather Ward Mahan (center).
Irish protestant, they came to America because of Religious persecution and the famine in Ireland. Daily Mahan was a furniture maker, as were many of the Irish immigrants. I inherited a beautiful Mahogany table that he had made. My grandfather was a policeman in Warren Ohio. This was an occupation available to Irish Americans in the early 1900s.
